Why These Three Services? A Story of Purpose and Progress

What started as a passion project quickly grew into something much more.

Hans has always had a love for building one-of-a-kind pieces—crafted with care, built to last, and meant to be passed down for generations. But early on, he faced a challenge: sourcing the right wood. He wanted materials that matched the integrity and creativity of his designs, but buying quality lumber came with limitations.

So, he started acquiring trees—beautiful hardwoods from local properties that had fallen during storms or needed to be removed. That’s when the idea sparked: What if he milled his own slabs? The purchase of a sawmill was the next natural step, allowing Hans to cut his own lumber and unlock even more creativity in his builds.

As word got out, friends and neighbors began asking for milled slabs and custom cuts. Soon, referrals were rolling in from folks needing lumber for their own projects. What began as a creative necessity quickly grew into a trusted local sawmill service.

Then came the next evolution. Property owners started calling Hans not just for lumber, but to help clear trees that had come down in storms or needed to be removed safely. With his growing equipment—from skid steer to dump trailer—it made sense to expand into full-service property solutions, offering safe tree removal, hauling, and land clearing.

On one of those jobs, a customer noticed the mulcher and skid steer and asked, “Can you help me clean up the rest of the property while you’re here?” That simple request planted the seed for a broader, more rugged solution—now a regular part of Silverback’s services.

So today, every part of Silverback Woodworks—Custom Woodcraft Designs, Sawmill & Kiln Services, and Full-Service Property Solutions—exists for a reason. Each one is rooted in Hans’ hands-on journey. What started as a way to support his own builds turned into a thriving business that helps others bring their vision to life—whether it’s a custom heirloom piece, a locally milled slab, or a cleaned-up property ready for its next chapter.

-Property Owner, East Texas

Hans transformed my overgrown, wooded property into a scenic sanctuary—ready for cabins to be built. He cut, dropped, and hauled off over 50 large pines, cleared roads and pads for the cabins, and mulched thick brush and vines. He even helped haul in and spread materials for the new roads. When a tornado later hit the area, Hans returned to remove dangerously leaning trees with precision and care. His equipment, skill, and work ethic made all the difference.

-Property Owner, Jefferson, TX

“After a storm took down several old-growth black walnut trees on my property, Hans handled everything with efficiency and care. He limbed the trees, cleared all the debris into a burn pile, and hauled the massive trunks to his sawmill using the right equipment for the job. Once seasoned, he milled them into stunning large slabs. I highly recommend Hans for anyone needing expert cleanup and sawmill services.”

- Satisfied Customer

Hans is an incredibly talented craftsman. He built beautiful custom hickory doors for my patio BBQ smokehouse that always catch people’s attention. Then came a one-of-a-kind Adirondack rocking chair made from local black walnut, maple, and hickory—now a treasured heirloom in my home. I was so impressed, I asked him to create a custom live-edge black walnut dining table next. I can’t wait to see the final result. I’m proud to be a Silverback customer and highly recommend Hans for truly unique, handcrafted pieces.

- Local Business Owner

As a local business owner, I asked Hans to create a live-edge black walnut countertop with an epoxy inlay in our company color for our front desk. It’s the first thing clients see when they walk in—and it stops them in their tracks. The piece is such a standout that we asked Hans to bring business cards, since so many clients were asking who did the work. Incredible craftsmanship and attention to detail.
